According to S. Korean media reports, the academic career of the country's First Lady, Kim Keon-hee, is under intense scrutiny after Sookmyung Women's University confirmed allegations of plagiarism in her master's thesis.
Her doctorate obtained from the same institution may also be rescinded.
Kim Keon-hee completed her master's thesis in 1999 at the Graduate School of Education at Sookmyung Women's University. The thesis focused on the stylistic studies of artist Paul Klee. Allegations of plagiarism surfaced in 2022 when her husband, Yoon Suk-yeol, was running for president. The university subsequently formed a Research Ethics Committee to investigate the claims.
Last month, an initial ruling found evidence of plagiarism, and this Tuesday, the university reached its final decision, officially confirming the allegations.
