On Feb. 24, Delta Airlines and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said Delta Flight 876 was traveling from Atlanta to Columbia, South Carolina, when "smoke was detected inside the aircraft". The aircraft was forced to return to the Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport and landed safely.
The aircraft, a Boeing 717, was reportedly carrying 94 passengers, two pilots and three flight attendants. The FAA will launch an investigation into the incident.
According to reports, Delta Airlines has been involved in a number of incidents in recent days, and this is the second "smoke" incident in the cabin of the airline in the past three days. On Feb. 22, a Delta flight carrying 162 passengers from Los Angeles International Airport to Sydney, Australia, also returned to the airport after smoke was detected in the cabin. In addition, on the afternoon of Feb. 17, Delta Flight 4819 landed at Toronto's Pearson International Airport in Canada after an accident in which the aircraft overturned upside down, but fortunately, all 80 passengers and crew on board survived.
