Nian gao, also simply known as "rice cake", is a traditional food of the Han Chinese people and seasonal food for the Chinese New Year. It is made from rice or glutinous rice, boiled into rice with beaten or water ground into powder and then pressed into a cake. In the Spring Festival, many regions of China have the tradition of eating rice cakes.
