The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Rosanna Law, met with the media this afternoon (Feb. 20) to discuss the opening ceremony and ticket arrangements for the Kai Tak Sports Park.
In response to reporters' questions, Law mentioned that the opening ceremony program will be pre-recorded rather than broadcast live for the public.
She explained that this is the first time performances from the main venue at Kai Tak will be broadcast through a television station. The decision to pre-record the ceremony was made in consultation with the production team, primarily to facilitate public viewing. The edited transitions will highlight the grandeur of the Kai Tak Sports Park and provide a better viewing experience.
She further noted that the facilities at Kai Tak Sports Park are advanced and fully equipped, making live broadcasting technically feasible.
"However, for the opening ceremony, the authorities and the production team considered how to showcase the beauty and magnificence of the venue, and ultimately, they decided to present the stage performances as pre-produced videos, allowing for seamless integration of various scenes and optimal angles to captivate the audience."
She believes that as long as the program is engaging, the format of the broadcast will not diminish interest.
When asked if the broadcast arrangements were to accommodate television news or advertising slots, Law acknowledged this as one of the considerations. However, she emphasized that the ceremony is scheduled to start at 6:30 PM, a time when most citizens are likely not yet home to watch. Therefore, they decided to air the edited program at 9:30 PM to better accommodate viewers.
Law also expressed gratitude to the staff, noting that the opening ceremony received strong support from both the entertainment and sports sectors. Most guests are only charged for makeup and transportation expenses, significantly reducing costs. All ticket sales revenue, without deducting handling fees, will be entirely donated to the Hong Kong Community Chest.
