Last night (Feb. 18), a water pipe burst occurred near the junction of Connaught Road Central and Jubilee Street in Central, involving a 200mm diameter potable water supply pipe. The Water Supplies Department immediately suspended the water supply from the affected pipe.
As of this morning (Feb. 19), the water supply has not yet been restored, impacting nearby facilities and commercial buildings, including the International Finance Centre (IFC), 41 Connaught Road Central, 83 to 88 Des Voeux Road Central, Exchange Square, 1 and 2 Connaught Place, Edinburgh Place, Jardine House, and the General Post Office.
The Water Supplies Department apologized to the public on social media, stating that engineering teams are working hard to repair the damage, aiming to restore water supply by 6 PM today and to reopen affected roads as soon as road repairs are completed. The department is also in close contact with building management companies and has dispatched water trucks to provide temporary drinking water to minimize the impact on users.
Additionally, the westbound slow lane of Connaught Road Central near Jubilee Street is temporarily closed to facilitate emergency repair work. The Transport Department has indicated that, due to the burst pipe, some traffic lanes on Connaught Road Central (heading towards Kennedy Town) near Jubilee Street are now closed, and drivers can only use the remaining lanes. Affected bus routes include Citybus routes 3A, 4, 4X, 7, 71, and 91, which will need to divert. The area is currently experiencing heavy traffic.
