Deputy Commissioner Ricky Yau Shu-chun of the Hong Kong ICAC led a delegation to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna for a two-day meeting (Feb. 11-12) of the Global Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Agencies Network (GlobE Network).
The meeting chair thanked HK for its capacity-building courses and expressed hope for continued contributions to the international anti-corruption effort.
Established in 2021, the GlobE Network facilitates cooperation among over 230 anti-corruption authorities from more than 120 countries. During the meeting, Yau highlighted ICAC's role in promoting the network and updating on initiatives from the HK International Academy Against Corruption (HKIAAC).
Dr. Nasser Abaalkhail, chair of the meeting, praised HK's training workshops and emphasized ICAC's significant role in enhancing global cooperation through its leadership in the IAACA. Yau noted that the ICAC has actively promoted international collaboration in anti-corruption efforts.
Since its launch in February 2024, the HKIAAC has conducted over 20 international training courses. To further explore collaboration, the ICAC delegation met with Professor Slagjana Taseva, President of the International Anti-Corruption Academy.
While in Vienna, the delegation also met with Chinese ambassadors and received updates on HK's anti-corruption efforts, including partnerships with the UNODC. They also connected with two ICAC officers working at the UNODC through the Junior Professional Programme. The delegation will return to HK on Feb. 14.
