On Feb. 10, two snow avalanches occurred in the Tsuchiya Onsen of Fukushima City, leading to the closure of a 5-kilometer stretch of road and stranding approximately 160 people at two local hot spring inns. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
According to Japanese media, the first avalanche took place in the early morning hours, with snow collapsing from a slope to a height of 1.5 meters, blocking a prefectural road in the hot spring resort area. Authorities were able to clear the snow, and the road reopened around 10 am. However, less than two hours later, a second avalanche struck the same location.

The Japan Meteorological Agency noted that snowfall in Fukushima City has been intermittent since Feb. 5. The region has previously issued avalanche warnings and has experienced heavy snowfall since last week. Influenced by one of the strongest cold fronts in years, many areas in Japan are seeing snow accumulation surpassing normal levels, including regions that typically receive little snow.
