Demand for medical consultations rises as Hong Kong residents travel frequently during holidays. Dr. Tsang Kay Yan, co-chair of the Infectious Disease Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Medical Association, highlighted today (Feb. 4) that timely antiviral medication intake post flu infection can lead to faster recovery. Delays in seeking treatment, however, could escalate upper respiratory tract infections into complications like pneumonia and encephalitis.
Dr. Tsang emphasized on a radio program that in recent weeks, children infected with the flu developed encephalitis, leading to severe conditions requiring intensive care unit admissions. He urged high-risk individuals, including the elderly and children, to get vaccinated against the flu.
