Yuen Long murder case: 2 more suspects arrested, total now 6 in custody
Hong Kong police have arrested two additional suspects in connection with a murder and assault case that occurred in Yuen Long on Wednesday (Jan. 22). In a social media update today (Jan. 24), authorities confirmed that a total of six individuals have now been apprehended. Sources indicate the two newly arrested suspects are a 22-year-old man surnamed Chiu and a 23-year-old man surnamed Cheuk.
In a press briefing yesterday (Jan. 23), police disclosed details of the case, which took place in the early hours of Jan. 22. Two local men were attacked with knives by multiple individuals in a factory building in Yuen Long. A 24-year-old man was pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital, while a 28-year-old man remains hospitalized in stable condition.
The investigation progressed swiftly, with officers arresting four local men aged 20 to 29 on Jan. 23 and Jan. 24.
The first arrest occurred at 3 p.m. on Jan. 22, when police detained a 27-year-old local man in Tuen Mun on charges of murder and wounding with intent. During the arrest, officers seized 672 space oil cartridges at the suspect's residence.
Further investigations revealed that some of the suspects had purchased plane tickets after the attack in an attempt to flee HK. At approximately 6 p.m. on Jan. 22, New Territories North Regional Crime Unit officers arrested a 29-year-old local man at HK International Airport (HKIA).
Police also identified two additional suspects, aged 20 and 21, who had boarded a flight to Bangkok earlier that same day. Through international police cooperation, Thai authorities were alerted and denied the two men entry upon their arrival at Bangkok Airport. The suspects were subsequently deported and returned to HK, where they were arrested at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 23 at HKIA.
Preliminary investigations suggest the case involves prior disputes and relationship conflicts. All arrested suspects remain in custody for further investigation. Police stated that the operation is ongoing and efforts are underway to track down additional individuals involved in the case.
