Experts in military field deconstruct combat effectiveness of 'Luohe' 054B frigate
On Jan. 22, the first type 054B frigate, the "Luohe", was commissioned at a military port in Qingdao. Military experts believe that the 054B will significantly enhance the Chinese Navy's long-range combat capabilities, qualifying it as a genuine blue-water frigate that can join carrier strike groups.
Expert Zhang Junshe noted that the 054B is equipped with advanced active phased array radar and fire control radar, enabling long-range detection and rapid response in air defense and anti-surface operations. Its anti-submarine capabilities are also impressive, featuring a larger helicopter deck and hangar to accommodate new-generation anti-submarine helicopters, enhancing its overall effectiveness.
Zhang Xuefeng emphasized the 054B's balanced performance in anti-submarine, anti-ship, and air defense roles, positioning it among the world's most advanced frigates. The use of new technologies allows for a combination of economic efficiency and high performance, enabling the Navy to construct a fleet capable of addressing diverse maritime threats.
Cao Weidong highlighted that the increased displacement allows for more weapon systems, including additional anti-aircraft, anti-ship, anti-submarine, and even cruise missiles. The frigate can also adopt new power systems, such as electric propulsion, which enhances stealth and anti-submarine capabilities. Greater tonnage translates to improved operational effectiveness. Cao also pointed out that the integrated mast design significantly reduces the likelihood of detection by enemy radar, thus increasing survival chances during military operations. Additionally, this design enhances the ship's information processing capabilities, reducing interference among various sensors and systems.
