IAEA: Iran has approximately 200kg enriched uranium, close to weapon-grade level
According to Reuters, on Jan. 22, during the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, IAEA Director General Grossi stated that Iran currently possesses approximately 200 kilograms of uranium enriched to a purity of 60%, which is close to the weapon-grade level of around 90%.
Grossi noted that Iran has recently accelerated the pace of uranium enrichment, with production increasing significantly.
According to IAEA standards, if further enriched, Iran's current stockpile of enriched uranium is close to being sufficient to produce materials for five nuclear weapons. This development has raised widespread concern and alarm in the international community, as uranium enriched to 60% can be converted to 90% weapon-grade with minimal technical processing.
Western countries have maintained a cautious stance towards Iran's nuclear program, believing that Iran has no reason to enrich uranium to such a high purity unless it is aimed at developing nuclear weapons. Iran, on the other hand, insists that its nuclear program is intended solely for peaceful purposes.
