The Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong anticipates approximately 1.45 million mainland visitors during the 8-day Golden Week for the Lunar New Year, marking a 15% increase from last year and reaching 90% of pre-pandemic levels. The peak entry period will be from Jan. 30 to Feb. 1, with daily arrivals potentially hitting 210,000.
Most mainland travelers are expected to arrive independently, with over 2,000 tour groups making up about 5% of the total. Additionally, around 70% of these tour groups will stay overnight, primarily for two-day, one-night visits, leading to an expected hotel occupancy rate nearing 90%.
The Council's Executive Director, Fanny Yeung, noted that Hong Kong will host numerous festive events during the Lunar New Year, including flower parades and fireworks displays. The vibrant atmosphere at the Lam Tsuen Wishing Trees in Tai Po, combined with Shenzhen's resumption of multiple-entry IVS, suggests a bustling market during the festive season.
