Police in Hong Kong have arrested a 49-year-old man for allegedly robbing a 77-year-old woman in her Tuen Mun home after following her from a bank where she exchanged new banknotes. The robbery occurred on Jan. 18 and was resolved the same day with the suspect's arrest.

According to the police, the elderly woman exchanged new banknotes at a Tuen Mun bank at noon, intending to use the money for red packets during the Lunar New Year. She then took the Light Rail home but was reportedly followed by a man.

Around 1 p.m., as the woman arrived at her residence, the suspect allegedly threatened her with a pair of scissors, forced her into her home, and stole cash, an Octopus card, and other items before fleeing. The woman later reported the incident to the police and was taken to Tuen Mun Hospital for treatment.

Police located and apprehended the suspect in Mong Kok around 3 p.m. the same day. Officers recovered the stolen items and the scissors believed to have been used in the crime. The suspect, who identified himself as a customer service officer, remains in custody for further investigation.

Police have reminded the public to stay cautious, especially as the Lunar New Year approaches. They advised against openly displaying valuables and recommended that elderly individuals bring friends or family members when visiting banks.
