23-year-old non-Chinese man arrested for jewelry robbery
On the evening of Jan. 15, a jewelry store called "Nam Fung Jewelry" in Sheung Shui was robbed by four masked thieves.
The robbers broke the store's display windows with hammers and threatened the staff with knives, stealing over HK$1.5 million worth of gold jewelry. They escaped in a black BMW.
Early on Jan. 16, police arrested a 23-year-old non-Chinese man in Pat Heung and recovered around ten pieces of stolen jewelry. Authorities are still searching for other suspects, believed to also be non-Chinese. The arrested man is facing a robbery charge and will appear in Tuen Mun Magistrates' Courts on Saturday, Jan. 18.
The robbery occurred just before dusk when the gang smashed the windows and threatened the employees. After the theft, they fled towards Kam Tin, but their getaway car later crashed into another vehicle on Lam Kam Road. The robbers abandoned the car and escaped on foot. An innocent driver was injured in the crash and required hospital treatment.
Police revealed that the getaway vehicle had been seen near the jewelry store two days before the robbery, indicating that the crime was planned. While there are reports of the suspect being caught in a stone house, police are focused on finding all involved individuals. So far, there is no evidence linking this case to organized crime. Authorities are working hard to locate the remaining suspects and recover the stolen items.
