First Greater Bay Area medical data space launched
Today (Jan. 17), The Chinese University of Hong Kong's Center for Entrepreneurship, in collaboration with several organizations, announced the establishment of the first international-standard cross-boundary medical data space in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
This initiative aims to enhance critical infrastructure, including data spaces and interconnectivity technologies, to boost the local data economy and innovation.
The data space will ensure the entire lifecycle of data generation, storage, processing, and distribution is secure. The National Bureau of Statistics of China plans to establish over 100 trusted data spaces by 2028 to support the global data economy and encourage cross-industry collaboration. This new medical data space will reinforce Hong Kong's role as a data hub and foster collaboration in healthcare and research.
Last year, the Science and Technology Parks Corporation partnered with 12 organizations to build a digital health ecosystem. The new data space will facilitate cross-boundary medical data flow and enable international cooperation in the healthcare sector.
Interested founding members include CUHK Medical Centre, Shenzhen Qianhai Shekou Free Trade Zone Hospital, Guangzhou Nansha District Health Bureau, and others.
