World's safest airlines for 2025: HK Express tops list among low-cost category, Cathay Pacific ranks 3rd
AirlineRatings has recently announced its ranking of the world's safest airlines for 2025, with Cathay Pacific and its low-cost subsidiary Hong Kong Express receiving commendable scores.
Cathay Pacific ranked third among traditional full-service airlines, improving six places from 2024, and ties with Qatar Airways and Emirates for the third spot. Hong Kong Express was recognized as the safest low-cost airline for 2025, noted for maintaining a "flawless safety record" during the monitoring period without any serious incidents.
Among traditional airlines, Singapore Airlines and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines fell out of the top 25. Singapore Airlines faced scrutiny following a May 2023 incident with flight SQ321, where a Boeing 777-300ER was forced to land in Thailand due to turbulence, resulting in one passenger death. KLM experienced a fatal accident in May 2024 when a person was sucked into an engine before takeoff, followed by a Boeing 737-800 making an emergency landing that slid off the runway in December, fortunately without casualties.
AirlineRatings ranked the top 25 safest traditional and low-cost airlines from a total of 385 airlines. All Nippon Airways (ANA), Korean Air, and Japan Airlines ranked 6th, 8th, and 19th, respectively. British Airways and Air Canada were placed 15th and 20th. In the low-cost category, Hong Kong Express topped the list, followed by Jetstar Group and Ryanair.
