Canada prepares tariff list in response to Trump's threats
According to reports from CCTV News, the Canadian government is drafting a list of US products in response to the tariff threats made by incoming US President Donald Trump.
Should Trump impose tariffs on Canadian goods upon taking office, Canada plans to retaliate with tariffs on imports from the US, including steel products, ceramics, and Florida-produced orange juice.
Sources indicate that the current list includes only a portion of the products intended for retaliatory tariffs. It has been reported that the Canadian government has not yet made a final decision on whether to proceed with these retaliatory measures or the specifics of the list.
The Canadian government is actively working to avoid a trade war. Jonathan Wilkinson, Canada's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, stated on Jan. 8 that the country is making every effort to prevent the devastating impact of tariffs. He is scheduled to visit Washington next week.
Trump has previously stated that he plans to impose a comprehensive 25% tariff on Canadian imports starting January 2025, raising concerns about potential trade tensions between the two nations.
