Young Chinese diver Quan Hongchan selected as Diving Female Athlete of 2024
The World Aquatics announced on Thursday evening (Jan. 2) that Chinese athlete Quan Hongchan had been selected as the Diving Female Athlete of 2024.
In a video, Quan carefully opens the box containing the trophy and says, "I am thrilled to receive this award, grateful for this recognition from the World Aquatics. Please continue to follow diving, thank you all for your support!"
China won all eight diving gold medals in the Paris Olympics – an unprecedented feat. While it was a collective effort, it should also be noted that two of its athletes earned double gold: Quan Hongchan won individual gold and synchro gold in women's 10m and Chen Yiwen won individual gold and synchro gold in women's 3m.
At only 17 years old, Quan already holds three Olympic gold medals, becoming the youngest triple gold medalist in China's Olympic history.
Earlier, World Aquatics officially announced the list of candidates for the best diving female athletes of 2024, including Quan Hongchan, Chen Yuxi, Chen Yiwen, Chang Yani and Madison Keeney.
