Chinese sprinter and "Asian Flying Man" Su Bingtian recently announced that he will retire after the 2025 National Games. He expressed a strong desire to contribute to his hometown and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, stating that he aims to give his all and see the National Games as a conclusion to his sports career.
In 2018, Su won championships in three indoor competitions in Germany and secured a silver medal at the Birmingham World Indoor Championships. He also set a new record of 9.92 seconds to win the 100-meter race in the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games.
At 35 years old, Su has participated in three Olympic Games. At the Tokyo Olympics, he ran 9.83 seconds in the men's 100-meter semifinals and ultimately placed sixth in the finals, breaking the Asian record.
In the men's 4x100-meter relay, he and his teammates finished fourth. However, due to a British athlete violating anti-doping regulations, the Chinese team was upgraded to bronze, achieving the best historical result. Unfortunately, Su missed the Paris Olympics due to injuries and physical conditions.
The 15th National Games will be held from Nov. 9 to 21, 2025, in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. This will be the first time the Greater Bay Area hosts China's highest-level, largest-scale, and most influential comprehensive sports event as a whole.
Su, born in Zhongshan, Guangdong, mentioned the significant effort he has put in and noted that he is currently in good physical condition, and able to engage in moderate-intensity training.
Let'slook forward to seeing Su Bingtian on the track again!
