China's C919 to launch first regular route to HK starting January 2025
China Eastern Airlines is set to operate the domestically produced C919 aircraft on its Shanghai Hongqiao–Hong Kong route starting Jan. 1, 2025, marking the first time the C919 will be deployed for regular commercial flights on a regional route.
As the global launch customer of the C919, China Eastern Airlines has placed an order for 105 aircraft, making it the largest operator of the C919 fleet to date. HK will be the ninth city in the world to feature regular commercial flights serviced by the C919.
For its inaugural flight to HK, the C919 will debut a special "China Red" livery to celebrate the occasion. Following the symbolic first flight, the aircraft will be integrated into the "Shanghai-HK Express Line," offering one round-trip flight daily.
The flight numbers will be MU721 (Shanghai Hongqiao to HK) and MU722 (HK to Shanghai Hongqiao). Tickets for these flights are now available for booking through China Eastern's official sales channels and major online travel agencies, with passengers able to view the C919 as the designated aircraft for this route.
