The Kerry Hong Kong Streetathon 2024 finished smoothly today (Dec. 8). According to the organizer, the temperature today was good and the response received so far was positive, describing the event as smooth. More than 19,400 people registered for the event, with 85% attending and 99% completing the race. During the race, four people were hospitalized for broken bones or bruises, while 110 others sustained minor injuries.

The Transport Department said that all roads on Hong Kong Island North, Kowloon East and Tseung Kwan O, which were closed earlier due to the race, have been reopened, and all affected public transport services have resumed normal.

Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mabel Chan, said at the kick-off ceremony that this year is "an eventful year" for Hong Kong's running sector. This year's race includes interesting elements, such as street scenes, music and aroma along the route, and for the first time, pon choi and cha kwo are provided as supplementary food.

In addition to promoting Hong Kong's unique streetscape to runners from other countries, the marathon will also offer a chance to taste Hong Kong's local cuisine, which is a great way to experience Hong Kong as a tourist destination, she added.
