Kerry Hong Kong Streetathon 2024 on Dec. 8: All relevant information at a glance!

To accommodate the "Kerry Hong Kong Streetathon 2024" taking place this Sunday (Dec. 8), the Transport Department today (Dec. 4) reminded citizens that starting from 1:00 am on that day, temporary special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented in various locations in Northern Hong Kong Island, Eastern Kowloon, and Tseung Kwan O in phases.

For the first time, village foods such as poon choi and cha kwo will be offered along the route.

The full marathon race will start near Hing Fat Street on the Island Eastern Corridor, passing through major routes including the Corridor, Central - Wan Chai Bypass, Lung Wo Road, then returning via the Eastern Harbour Crossing and the Tseung Lam Highway, before heading back through Cha Kwo Ling Road, Kwun Tong Bypass, Seaside Road, Kai Fuk Road, Kai Tak Tunnel, and the East Kowloon Corridor to the finish line at San Shan Road in To Kwa Wan.

In line with the race arrangements and progress, temporary road closures will be implemented in phases along the race route starting from 1:00 AM on that day until approximately 1:00 PM when the roads are expected to reopen. Drivers are advised to pay attention to on-site traffic signs and consider using alternative routes to their destinations.

Due to the temporary road closures, the Transport Department anticipates significant traffic congestion in various areas of Hong Kong and Kowloon compared to a typical Sunday, including:

Hong Kong Island:

  • King's Road
  • Java Road
  • Shau Kei Wan Road
  • Causeway Road
  • Victoria Park Road
  • Yee Wo Street
  • Gloucester Road
  • Hennessy Road
  • Connaught Road Central
  • Harcourt Road
  • Queensway
  • Aberdeen Tunnel (towards Wan Chai)
  • Central Ferry Piers

Kowloon:

  • Kwun Tong Road
  • Wai Yip Street
  • Prince Edward Road East
  • Kowloon Bay area

Drivers are advised to avoid driving to affected areas. If encountering traffic congestion, please be patient, drive carefully, and follow the instructions of on-site police officers.

As a result of the temporary road closures, 58 bus routes (including 18 KMB routes, 20 Citybus routes, and 20 tunnel bus routes) and 16 minibus routes will need to implement temporary diversions, shorten routes, or relocate stops in phases until the roads reopen. During the closure, taxi stands (including drop-off and pick-up points), public minibus stops, roadside parking spaces and private parking lots on affected roads will be temporarily unavailable.

To facilitate participants heading to Causeway Bay for the full marathon and half marathon races, which start at 5:15 AM and 5:55 AM respectively, the MTR will have its first trains on all local routes (excluding the Airport Express and Disneyland line) depart earlier on Sunday. The earliest trains will be on the Tuen Ma Line and East Rail Line, departing at 2:50 AM. Additionally, three special bus routes will operate on Sunday to assist participants traveling to Causeway Bay.
