HK Streetathon held today | Chan Kwok-ki hopes runners will breakthrough themselves
The Kerry Hong Kong Streetathon 2024 kicked off this morning (Dec. 8), featuring a full marathon, a half marathon and a 10km race, and for the first time, village food such as pon choi will be provided along the way.
The scale of this year's race is similar to that of last year's, with more than 19,000 runners registered, including 3,069 non-local runners from 64 countries and regions.
The race started at the Island Eastern Corridor after 5 a.m. today, with Chief Secretary for Administration, Chan Kwok-ki, attending the kick-off ceremony. Speaking at the ceremony, Chan said that the event is now in its ninth year and new elements have been added to bring surprises to the participants. He hoped that the participants will enjoy the fun of long-distance running while striving to break through the barrier.
Chan said that this year's event has added a family category to the 10km race, requiring that one of the participants in the family team must be a young person aged between 10 and 25 years old, in order to encourage young people to participate in long-distance running activities, to strengthen their bodies and to meet the government's policy objective of promoting the popularization of sports.
The full marathon race will start near Hing Fat Street on the Island Eastern Corridor, passing through major routes including the Corridor, Central - Wan Chai Bypass, Lung Wo Road, then returning via the Eastern Harbour Crossing and the Tseung Lam Highway, before heading back through Cha Kwo Ling Road, Kwun Tong Bypass, Seaside Road, Kai Fuk Road, Kai Tak Tunnel, and the East Kowloon Corridor to the finish line at San Shan Road in To Kwa Wan.
