Giant pandas An An & Ke Ke meet public from today
The two giant pandas An An and Ke Ke gifted to Hong Kong by the central government have arrived in Hong Kong for three months and finally met the public at Ocean Park today (Dec. 8).
The results of the naming competition organized by the HKSAR government were announced yesterday, and it was announced that the original names of the two giant pandas would be used, which means "Hong Kong is a place of peace and contentment, where all things are possible". The Chinese "An Ke" harmonizes with "Encore", implying that good things will continue to happen in Hong Kong in the future.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Chief Executive John Lee said that a pair of giant pandas has become a member of the Hong Kong family, and that Hong Kong, with six giant pandas, is honored to be the place with the largest number of giant pandas outside of the Mainland. He said the arrival of the new pair of giant pandas in Hong Kong has three meanings: it is an important manifestation of the central government's support and care for Hong Kong, a successful example of the country's conservation efforts, and a goodwill ambassador between China and Hong Kong.
