Giant panda An An, Ke Ke to keep original names
Today (Dec. 7), Ocean Park held the "Giant Panda Greeting Ceremony," revealing the new names given to the giant pandas gifted to Hong Kong by the Central Government. The two pandas, originally named "An An" (male) and "Ke Ke" (female) before coming to Hong Kong, will retain their original names, as announced by the judging panel today.
They will meet the public tomorrow (Dec. 8).
The giant pandas gifted by the Central Government arrived in Hong Kong on Sept. 26 and completed their quarantine on Oct. 25. The Commerce and Economic Development Bureau, together with Ocean Park, organized naming and painting competitions for "An An" and "Ke Ke." Chief Executive John Lee previously mentioned that Ocean Park received over 22,600 naming suggestions and 3,000 artwork submissions, describing the public response to the competitions as enthusiastic.
