On Dec. 5, Han Dong-hoon, the representative of the ruling party, the People Power Party in South Korea, stated before the vote on the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol that as the party leader, he would do his best to prevent the impeachment from passing.
However, he would once again request Yoon to resign from the party.
Earlier, the People Power Party had convened a meeting of all its members and passed a decision to oppose the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol.
Following Yoon's announcement of an emergency martial law, Han immediately called this decision a "mistake." According to Xinhua News Agency, on Dec. 4, the leadership of the People Power Party held a closed-door highest committee meeting. Kim Jong-hyuk, a member of the People's Power Supreme Council, revealed to the media that the meeting discussed options such as Yoon resigning from the party and the entire cabinet resigning in response to Yoon's issuance of the emergency martial law decree.
