Caricature: Family of privilege

On Dec. 1, US President Joe Biden unexpectedly announced a presidential pardon for his son, Hunter Biden, sparking outrage across the American political spectrum.

The pardon immediately made headlines across major US media outlets. The Hill reported that reactions from both parties poured in in the wake of the announcement, with Republicans expressing furor over Biden's decision.

The Atlantic published an article titled "Biden's Unpardonable Hypocrisy," accusing the president of contradicting his earlier rhetoric.

Meanwhile, The New York Times ran an analysis piece titled "In Pardoning His Son, Biden Echoes Some of Trump’s Complaints." The article noted that Biden's defense of his decision sounded strikingly similar to grievances often voiced by his predecessor, Donald Trump, raising questions about the impartiality of the US judicial system.
