John Lee expresses confidence in Mable Chan, Rosanna Law as new heads
The State Council of China announced on Thursday (Dec. 5) the appointment and removal of key officials in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government.
Mable Chan was appointed Secretary for Transport and Logistics, replacing Lam Sai-hung.
Rosanna Law Shuk-pui was appointed Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, replacing Kevin Yeung Yun-hung.
John Lee mentioned that both Chan and Law have each served in the government for over 35 years, possessing rich administrative and managerial experience.
When asked about the reasons for personnel adjustments, Lee responded that he believes that the new heads can demonstrate leadership abilities and have good explanatory skills and proactivity. He stated that the expectation for the team is to act proactively, with results as the goal, and he believes that after their appointment, they can accomplish more work.
Lee mentioned that he appreciates the leadership, proactivity, and explanatory skills of Chan and Law, which is why he chose to appoint them. He also noted that different bureaus face different difficult challenges, and each bureau head has been giving their all.
"Some issues still need to be addressed, and there may be public opinions, but I'm confident that my team and I will find solutions."
When asked if he is concerned about new heads not knowing how to handle their tasks, Lee responded that no one in the world knows how to do everything, that they need to learn more, and most importantly, they need to have the qualities of implementation and explanation because it is important to make the citizens understand and gain their support.
"Every policy will have its shortcomings, but the most important thing is that policies can help our citizens," he said.
Regarding the criteria for nominating officials, Lee said, "I appreciate leadership abilities and proactivity, which are what I need. In the upcoming term, I hope to seize the time because we have wasted too much time in the past. I hope our goals can be achieved, and we will go all out to do so. I am currently very satisfied with the structure of my team, and all current members are very capable and share the same governing philosophy. I have confidence in them to better serve the citizens."
