Mable Chan poised to support stress testing for Kai Tak Sports Park and cross-boundary transportation services
The State Council of China announced on Thursday (Dec. 5) the appointment and removal of key officials in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government.
Mable Chan has been appointed as the new Secretary for Transport and Logistics, replacing Lam Sai-hung.
Chan stated during a media briefing today (Dec. 5) that she is very pleased with the Chief Executive's nomination and feels deeply honored by the appointment from the Central Government.
Chan pointed out that the outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan indicates that Hong Kong is an international shipping center and international aviation hub, with unique advantages and possesses seaports, airports, and land ports. In the future, she will lead her team and four departments to do their utmost, actively seek change, develop transportation infrastructure in shipping, air transport, and land transport, and actively integrate into national and Greater Bay Area (GBA) development.
Regarding aviation, Chan proposed that she will fully support the local aviation industry in quickly restoring capacity as requested by the CE, strengthen connections with mainland cities, expand overseas air networks, and make good use of the third runway system.
In terms of shipping, she will enhance communication and collaboration with the industry in the future, actively seek change, overcome challenges, develop green ports, promote digitization, strengthen cooperation with GBA ports, and simultaneously promote high-value-added maritime services to enhance Hong Kong's competitiveness.
According to Chan, she will lead her team to adopt a dual innovation mindset (technological innovation, policy innovation) and promote the implementation of various projects outlined in the blueprint. In terms of public transportation, she will monitor service providers to provide efficient, safe, and affordable public transportation services for residents, and work with the industry to innovate and meet the needs of citizens for convenient and safe travel.
Chan also mentioned that the Kai Tak Sports Park will be completed and put into use next year, and she will fully cooperate with the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Security Bureau, and relevant units to support stress testing and improve transportation arrangements.
In addition, she noted that the recent resumption of the Multiple-visa Individual Visit Scheme arrangement in Shenzhen by the Central Government is encouraging. She has instructed the Transport Department and relevant service operators to strengthen local and cross-boundary transportation services to meet the transportation needs of inbound and outbound travelers.
