South Korean police begins investigation into President Yoon Suk-yeol
On Dec. 5, local time, South Korean police began an investigation into President Yoon Suk-yeol, according to the National Police Agency in South Korea.
On the evening of Dec. 3, President Yoon Suk-yeol announced the implementation of martial law, claiming that the opposition party was manipulating the National Assembly and disrupting the nation, stating that he would eliminate "anti-national forces" within South Korea.
Following this, all political activities were prohibited. As a result, South Korea entered a state of martial law starting at 11 p.m. that night. However, around 1 a.m. on Dec. 4, facing the sudden declaration of martial law, the National Assembly convened an emergency meeting, and all 190 members voted to demand Yoon withdraw the martial law order.
Around 4:27 a.m. local time on Dec. 4, President Yoon Suk-yeol announced that he accepted the National Assembly's request and lifted the martial law order. This came just over six hours after he declared the "emergency martial law" at 10:25 p.m. on Dec. 3.
