Kim Min-ki, the president of the National Assembly of South Korea, held a press conference on Dec. 4, local time to express his strong protest against the unconstitutional and illegal acts that took place in the National Assembly Hall and the damages caused by them.
Kim announced that from Dec. 4, the Ministry of National Defense and the police will be banned from entering and exiting the National Assembly building.
He said, "This is an emergency measure to protect the personal safety of members of the National Assembly and to ensure the functioning of the National Assembly. Kim said that the Assembly will "thoroughly assess the physical damage and other losses caused by the declaration of martial law," and will prosecute the illegal acts to the end.
Kim also said that the incident also resulted in injuries to parliamentary staff, and that an accurate count of the number of people and the extent of the injuries is being compiled.
