HK welcomes 1 millionth visitor from the Philippines in 2024
The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) stated today (Dec. 1) that since the full resumption of normal travel, the number of visitors from the Southeast Asian market has shown strong growth.
Notably, the number of visitors from the Philippines reached its one-millionth visitor last Friday (Nov. 29), breaking the previous record of 930,000 visitors for the entire year of 2018, setting a new historical high.
From January to October this year, the HKTB recorded over 2.3 million Southeast Asian visitors to Hong Kong, achieving approximately 95% of pre-pandemic levels.
The HKTB noted that Southeast Asian travelers are predominantly young people, with an average stay of 3.4 nights and a per capita spending of HK$7,100. The three most popular places for Southeast Asian visitors include theme parks, Temple Street, and the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade.
Additionally, as of October this year, the number of mainland visitors increased by 32.8% year-on-year, reaching about 28 million, while the number of visitors from Malaysia rose by 70.4%.
HKTB Executive Director Dane Cheng welcomed the one-millionth visitor from the Philippines in 2024, Miguel Linao, along with his wife, Ana Linao, and their three children, presenting them with a welcome bouquet at Hong Kong International Airport.
Cheng mentioned that many Southeast Asian travelers enjoy celebrating festivals in Hong Kong, so the HKTB will seize this opportunity to enhance promotions through the "Hong Kong WinterFest" to attract more visitors to experience the vibrant festive atmosphere.
