LegCo members: Return of 'multiple-entry' endorsement beneficial to HK's economy, transportation expected to be improved
The National Immigration Administration announced today (Nov. 29) that Shenzhen residents could apply for multiple-entry visas to Hong Kong from Dec. 1.
Speaking about the policy, Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Wing-kit emphasized its role in enhancing connectivity within the Greater Bay Area (GBA). He noted that the previous multi-entry permit system made travel between HK and Shenzhen highly convenient, providing flexibility for business, tourism, and shopping. Yang highlighted the policy's significant contributions to HK's economy, particularly in supporting the hospitality and dining industries.
He also suggested that the HKSAR government should prioritize improving transportation infrastructure at boundary checkpoints, ensuring better connections to tourist attractions, hotels, and urban areas. This would make it easier for Shenzhen residents to visit HK for leisure and consumption, further boosting the local economy and grassroots employment.
LegCo member Wong Kam-fai expressed optimism about the policy's reinstatement, calling it a positive step for HK's economic recovery. Wong noted that the policy will not only facilitate mainland visitors' travel to HK but also help them experience the city's unique culture and diverse lifestyle.
He urged for more flexible and efficient boundary arrangements, which would foster greater integration and connectivity among cities in the GBA. According to Wong, initiatives such as the multi-entry permit are crucial for achieving seamless intercity travel and strengthening cultural and economic ties among GBA cities.
