Attempts to provoke 'Taiwan independence' shall not succeed: Foreign Ministry on Lai Ching-te's visit to US
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning presided over a routine press conference on Nov. 28 where a reporter asked about the Taiwan authorities' leader going to the United States for a visit.
Mao stated that a fundamental principle of China is a basic norm in international relations and a universal consensus in the international community. The actions of the Lai Ching-te authorities visiting so-called diplomatic allies, engaging in political manipulation and provoking "independence" are impossible to succeed and cannot shake the solid foundation of the international community's adherence to the One-China principle, nor can they stop the historical trend of China's reunification.
China consistently opposes official exchanges between the US and Taiwan, opposes Taiwan authorities' leader visiting the US for any reason or in any capacity, and opposes the US in any way condoning or supporting "Taiwan independence" separatists and their separatist activities, Mao stated.
