Brand new! Over 400 innovations presented at CIIE 2024

The 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) officially opened today (Nov. 5). This year's expo focuses on developing new quality productive forces and will showcase over 400 representative new products, technologies, and services. Also, new special zones have been established to target emerging sectors, including a first-ever section dedicated to new materials, to build an international exchange platform for innovative development in this field.

As the expo's influence expands, it is increasingly becoming the preferred venue for domestic and international brands to participate in.

Hong Kong enterprises showcase non-invasive medical devices

Since its inception in 2018, the expo has attracted participation from 181 countries and regions, with approximately 16,000 enterprises exhibiting. It has featured nearly 2,500 representative new products, technologies, and services for the first time, with a cumulative intended transaction amount exceeding US$420 billion.

"Future glass"

This year, the expo will debut a range of exhibits representing the direction of new productive forces, covering high-end equipment, new materials, marine engineering equipment, biotechnology, advanced agricultural technologies, and other cutting-edge fields. Notably, establishing a new materials section will concentrate on showcasing high-value products such as electronic materials, biomaterials, and specialty materials located upstream in the global high-end manufacturing industrial chain. Leading companies like Invista, Nippon Paint, and Advantest will participate for the first time.

Among the innovations is a biochip laboratory technology no larger than a fingernail that facilitates more efficient automated diagnostics, glass fiber optics that enhance surgical robots with "eagle-eyed" precision, and optical waveguides that eliminate the "boundary" between the digital and real worlds. These once-sci-fi technologies will take center stage at the expo.

Schott, a German company with over 140 years of experience in specialty glass, will present multiple applications of specialty glass. "The R&D of new materials is a crucial foundational element in the upstream industrial chain. Schott's products continue to explore the forefront of technology. At this expo, we will showcase more 'future' applications of specialty glass, hoping to open up infinite possibilities for the audience and the market," said Chen Wei, general manager of Schott China.

As a multinational high-tech specialty materials company participating in all seven expos, Schott has successfully realized the expo's mission of "turning exhibitors into investors and products into commodities." Dr. Frank Heinricht, CEO of Schott, stated that China is one of the company's key markets. According to him, the expo has brought significant brand effects, and this year, Schott will present in the new materials section, aiming to continue promoting the development of high-tech enterprises in China through specialty materials.

Investing in the hydrogen energy industry

Ai Zhouping, president of the Greater China Regional Headquarters of Heraeus, noted that China has become one of Heraeus's most important strategic markets. Leveraging the benefits of the expo, Heraeus will increase its investment plans in China, with plans to establish a hydrogen catalyst R&D center in Shanghai next year, hoping to promote high-quality development across various industries through innovative material solutions.

This year's expo has upgraded its innovation incubation zone, focusing for the first time on four major sectors: digital economy, green low-carbon, life sciences, and manufacturing technology. According to Wu Zhengping, deputy director general of the CIIE Bureau, the innovation incubation zone has achieved both scale and quality improvements, showcasing approximately 360 innovative projects.

Making its debut, Asieris Meditech focuses on the life sciences sector and will present a non-invasive photodynamic drug-device combination product for treating precursors to cervical cancer. It will also collaborate with partners to launch the expo's first innovative prevention and control system to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer. "The expo is a showcase for global innovative products and technologies. We hope to promote and accelerate the introduction of clinically unmet products in China, benefiting more patients as soon as possible," said Pan Ke, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Asieris Meditech.
