CE: Kai Tak Sports Park to hold test matches, drills again in mid-November
The Chief Executive, John Lee, met with reporters before attending the Executive Council meeting and said that as for the operation of the Kai Tak Sports Park, the government will take a proactive and gradual approach in taking forward tests and drills, the intensity of which will be gradually increased and continuously pushed forward until more than one drill with 50,000 people in it is conducted.
He asked all departments, the Kai Tak Sports Park Limited, and operators of all aspects of the operation to raise the safety factor, and formulate all kinds of contingency plans, including contingency plans for emergencies and unstable weather, and the Chief Secretary for Administration will continue to proactively and closely prepare for the various tests and exercises, and will also do a good job in publicity.
Lee said that the first test match was held at the Kai Tak Sports Park Youth Sports Ground this past Sunday (Oct. 27), with more than 1,500 spectators and about 300 staff members participating.
He said that before the formal operation of the Kai Tak Sports Park, different kinds of tests and drills would be organized in the three venues and other parts of the Park. The second test match and drill will be held in mid-November for the Youth Sports Ground, while the first test and drill will be held in December for the indoor sports venues, and the main stadium will be conducted in early January next year.
Lee added that for the transportation test, special MTR trips were requested to be added to test the time for diverting the passenger flow. After that, tests will be conducted on increasing the number of buses and coaches to carry passengers dispersing from the stadium, and testing will be conducted on the provision of pick-up and drop-off points outside the Sung Wong Toi Station of the MTR so that passengers will be carried by different modes of transport.
