Cathay Pacific has resumed its direct flights between Hong Kong and Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, after a seven-year hiatus, with the route reopening today (Oct. 28).

The airline will operate three weekly flights on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Riyadh is Cathay Pacific's 27th destination along the Belt & Road Initiative (BRI).

Financial Secretary Paul Chan expressed optimism that the renewed connection will create fresh opportunities for investment and trade cooperation. He believes that as HK continues to expand its role in the Greater Bay Area and the BRI, the resumption of flights will accelerate future success between the two regions.

Chan also highlighted the existing ties between HK and Saudi Arabia, built through official visits, bilateral agreements, business delegations, and investment. He stated that the new flight route will further enhance HK's position as a global aviation hub and serve as a gateway for deeper cooperation and mutual benefit between HK and Saudi Arabia.
