In the finals of the WTA500 Tokyo, Hubei tennis player Zheng Qinwen defeated former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin 2-0 to clinch the championship on Oct. 27.

Zheng entered the Tokyo tournament as the top seed and secured the title with a 2-0 victory over Kenin, marking her third championship of the season and the fifth of her career.

Earlier this year, Zheng made her first Grand Slam final appearance at the Australian Open, a personal milestone. In July, she won the WTA250 event in Palermo, and in August, she earned the gold medal in women's singles at the 2024 Paris Olympics, becoming the first Chinese athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in tennis singles. Recently, Zheng also reached her first final at the 2024 WTA Wuhan Open, where she finished as the runner-up.

The 2024 WTA Finals are scheduled to take place from Nov. 2 to 9 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Following Li Na, Zheng Qinwen will be the second Chinese player to qualify for the WTA Year-End Finals.
