IEA reports China to remain world's largest LNG buyer for next two years
Due to strong industrial demand, China will continue to be the world's largest buyer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) over the next two years, said Keisuke Sadamori, the Director of Energy Markets and Security at the International Energy Agency (IEA).
According to Reuters, speaking at a conference in Hiroshima, Sadamori highlighted that China's natural gas demand grew by approximately 10% in the first eight months of this year and is expected to increase by 16% by 2025 compared to 2023, primarily driven by the industrial sector.
He noted that this robust domestic demand growth will push China's energy imports to new heights in the coming years, solidifying its position as the largest LNG market globally.
In addition to importing natural gas via pipelines, China also produces its natural gas and receives LNG through terminal facilities.
