'Bugs' on body: HK man molests local woman in Japan with absurd excuse
According to reports from Japanese media, a 33-year-old man from Hong Kong allegedly molested a 20-year-old Japanese woman returning home late at night in a shopping district in Asakusa, Tokyo in June of this year, using the excuse that there were "bugs" on her. The victim, unwilling to suffer in silence, reported the incident to the police. However, he immediately left Japan the following day and remained at large. He was arrested by Japanese police upon re-entry on Oct. 5.
To be explicit, on the night of June 9, he was wandering in a shopping street in Asakusa when a 20-year-old woman passed by. He expressed in simple Japanese, "There are bugs, bugs, bugs, on your back", and then reached under her clothing to directly touch her breast. After receiving the report, the police launched an investigation and discovered that a similar incident had been reported the day before in Asakusa.
The day before yesterday, he traveled with his family from Hong Kong to Fukuoka and was arrested at Fukuoka Airport.
The Immigration Department stated that they have been in contact with the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Fukuoka to gather information regarding the case, including the identity of the person involved.
It is known that the man was involved in similar incidents between 2019 and 2020, where he approached seven women at University Station and other MTR stations, falsely claiming that there were caterpillars or spiders on them as a pretext to molest them. In the chaos, he also stole belongings worth nearly HK$10,000 from three of the women. In 2020, he was charged with seven counts of molestation and three counts of theft, and was convicted in the following year and sentenced to 32 months in prison.
