China's railway expects 21 mn passengers on Oct. 1
Today, Oct. 1, marks the National Day public holiday in Hong Kong and the first day of the 'Golden Week' holiday in the Mainland. The national railway system is expected to handle 21 million passengers, reaching a peak in travel demand.
According to CCTV, passenger traffic is particularly concentrated in key regions such as Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, the Yangtze River Delta, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Chengdu-Chongqing region, as well as the northeast of China. China Railway Beijing Group expects to transport 1.635 million passengers, with over 100 additional trains scheduled, primarily headed for destinations like Shanghai, Shenyang, Taiyuan, and Zhengzhou.
The railway system is projected to carry 3.8 million passengers in the Yangtze River Delta region. Over 100 extra trains have been added to popular routes, including those from Shanghai Hongqiao to Zhengzhou East and Hefei to Beijing West. Meanwhile, Guangzhou South Station is expected to handle 446,000 passengers, with more than 18,000 travelers departing per hour.
