Flight rescheduling amid typhoon ensures 708 flights operate today
With Typhoon Signal No. 8 in effect until at least noon today (Sept.6), the Airport Authority has activated a flight rescheduling mechanism. Approximately 80% of flights are operating today.
"Out of 916 flights yesterday, about 50 were canceled. After rescheduling, 708 flights are operating today, 80% of the usual capacity," said Steven Yiu, Airport Operations Executive Director.
Yiu noted that many travelers concerned about road transport issues this morning, arrived at the airport yesterday and stayed overnight. All 500 seats in the rest area were occupied.
Yiu also said that over a thousand airport staff remained on duty overnight, ensuring smooth check-in services this morning without long queues. The Airport Authority has activated a care team to distribute water, blankets, and snacks to stranded passengers.
