MTR train service continues under Gale and Storm Signal No. 8
The Hong Kong Observatory issued Gale or Storm Signal No. 8 at 6:20 pm. MTR has stepped up its train, Light Rail and MTR Bus services to peak frequencies to meet the increased passenger demand.
Service of the High Speed Rail (Hong Kong Section) will remain normal when the Gale or Storm Signal No. 8 is issued. The Corporation will continue to closely communicate with mainland railway authorities about service arrangements based on the latest weather conditions in Hong Kong and on the mainland. However, High Speed Rail service may be suspended at short notice because of adverse weather conditions.
High Speed Rail service will be suspended when Hurricane Signal No.10 is in force.
MTR train service will continue under Gale and Storm Signal No. 8. Crowd management measures may be implemented at individual stations to facilitate smooth passenger flow. The Corporation appeals to passengers for their patience and understanding. Additional manpower has been arranged at MTR stations to facilitate the train service arrangements and assist passengers.
When the storm gets closer to Hong Kong, service frequencies will be gradually reduced based on passenger demand. In addition, MTR Bus service will be suspended three hours after the Gale or Storm Signal No. 8 is issued. However, MTR train service in open sections, Light Rail and MTR Bus services may be suspended without prior notice if weather condition suddenly deteriorates.
Meanwhile, to ensure the safety of passengers and staff, trains that depart after the issuance of the Increasing Gale or Storm Signal No. 9 (or higher typhoon signal) will not operate in open sections and Light Rail service will also be suspended. When Signal No. 9 or above is issued, trains already operating in the open sections will be arranged, under safe conditions and as far as possible, to continue their journeys to the original destinations or stations connected to shopping malls, according to MTR.
During typhoons, MTR service could be adjusted depending on the severity of the weather conditions and specific safety considerations.
The Corporation calls on passengers to pay close attention to the latest service arrangements of MTR and High Speed Rail during adverse weather disseminated via MTR Mobile, MTR Facebook page, MTR website, High Speed Rail app and website, 12306 website and app, public announcements in stations and on trains, station notices and the media.
