Typhoon Yagi was upgraded from a severe tropical storm at 8 a.m. today. Hong Kong Electric announced it has activated a range of response measures, including deploying additional staff if needed to handle potential impacts on power supply during the typhoon.

For power generation, Hong Kong Electric will activate additional generators to quickly increase output if necessary. Once the No. 3 signal is issued, extra personnel will be stationed at the Lamma Power Station to manage operations and maintenance, mitigating the effects of halted sea transport.

Regarding power distribution, flood prevention upgrades have been completed at coastal and hillside substations at risk of flooding. Measures include elevating key equipment and installing CCTV, floodgates, drainage pumps, and monitoring systems to enhance flood resistance. The power network's underground cables, used for electricity transmission, reduce vulnerability to weather and environmental factors.

In case of force majeure events affecting the power supply, additional engineers and contractors will be on standby across Hong Kong Island to conduct immediate repairs. Multiple mobile emergency generators can be dispatched to provide temporary power, supported by a mobile command center for efficient incident response.
