The Japan Meteorological Agency said Typhoon Ampil is moving east-northeast at 20km/h today (Aug. 17). Currently, normal life in Tokyo and surrounding areas has resumed, and power supply has been restored to most of the customers who were without power. However, some cities may experience high temperatures.

The Meteorological Agency has issued heatstroke warnings for 28 out of 47 prefectures, saying that due to the impact of Ampil, the maximum temperature in Kumagaya, Saitama Prefecture, is expected to reach 39 degrees Celsius, and 38 degrees Celsius in cities such as Nagoya and Hamamatsu.

In addition, the Meteorological Agency warned of the possibility of heavy rainfall of up to 40 millimeters per hour and lightning in the Tohoku region, accompanied by strong winds that will last for several hours, warning people to beware of landslides, overflowing rivers and strong winds.

On the transport front, the Tokaido Shinkansen resumed full operation today, but air services are still affected. According to statistics, about 70 domestic flights on All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines were canceled today. About 650 flights to and from Haneda and Narita airports were canceled yesterday, affecting about 120,000 passengers.

According to the Hong Kong Airport Authority's website, nine Cathay Pacific flights to Japan were delayed. Of the flights returning to Hong Kong from Japan, seven Hong Kong Express Airways flights were delayed and six Hong Kong Airlines flights were delayed.
