Olympics | Lo Wai-fung and Lee Sze-wing return to HK, starting afresh for future games
Hong Kong athletes achieved two gold and two bronze medals at the Paris Olympics. The Hong Kong, China Delegation members returned home today (Aug. 13), including Chef de Mission Thomas Brian Stevenson, Hong Kong Taekwondo athlete Lo Wai-Fung, and racing cyclist Lee Sze-wing.
Lo said they are honored to be the flag bearers and bring positive energy to the youth, although they haven't achieved the best among Hong Kong athletes.
As the first Hong Kong taekwondo athlete to be shortlisted for the Olympics, Lo said that there is still room for improvement despite his satisfaction with his overall performance at the Olympics. He advised young people in pursuit of their dreams not to give up so easily, elaborating that he told himself not to give up even though he had been left behind and kicked to the ground in the Repechage.
Lee believes this experience will help her reflect on herself and start afresh for the World Championships, the National Games, and the Olympics, although she has not achieved the goal she set before the games. She also realizes that sports have the power to attract and integrate people from different countries.
Lo, the first Hong Kong taekwondo athlete ever to compete in the Olympics, achieved the best result in the history of Hong Kong, China Delegation despite losing to the previous gold medalist in the round of 16. Lee, who made her Olympic debut at the age of 23, finished 20th in the Women's Omnium.
