LegCo Members: drastic increase in VHIS premiums not going to appear
The Government is considering extending the coverage of the Voluntary Health Insurance Scheme (VHIS) to the services of the Chinese Medicine Hospital. Chan Wing-kwong, a Member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong for Election Committee constituency and chairman of the Hong Kong Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioners Association (HKRCMP), says on a radio program on Aug. 6 that such measures demonstrate the Government's recognition and enhancement of Chinese medicine services.
Regarding public concern about the premiums, Chan Wing-kwong thinks that there is no major difference between the cost of Chinese medicine services and Western medicine services.
Another LegCo member Chan Pui-leung, who is also a senior in an insurance company, says in the program that since there was no Chinese medicine hospital in Hong Kong in the past, we should acquire more data to assess the premiums depending on the scope of medical services to be provided by the Chinese Medicine Hospital and its charges for hospitalization, etc.
