Safeguarding national security has no end but only progress: John Lee

In his 2023 Policy Address, Chief Executive John Lee proposed to set up a National Security Exhibition Gallery to raise public awareness of national security and promote national security education in the community. After 10 months of preparation, the exhibition hall was opened today (Aug. 6) and will be open to the public starting tomorrow.

Speaking at the opening ceremony today, the CE said the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China passed the Decision, which emphasizes that national security is an important foundation for the steady and far-reaching progress of Chinese-style modernization and that it is necessary to fully implement the overall concept of national security and the institutional mechanism for the protection of national security, so as to achieve the benign interactions between high-quality development and high-security levels, and to ensure the long-term stability and security of the country.

"It is important to fully implement the overall national security concept and fully safeguard the national security system and mechanism, and realize the positive interaction between high-quality development and high-level security, so as to practically guarantee the country's long-term stability," Lee said.

He also pointed out that safeguarding national security has no end but only progress.

"In the face of the ever-changing international situation, frequent regional conflicts, and siege and suppression by external forces, we must strengthen our awareness of danger."

According to Lee, the SAR Government will fully and accurately implement the principle of "one country, two systems", and will unswervingly safeguard the interests of national sovereignty, security and development, and comprehensively enhancing national security education is an important part of safeguarding national security.

Lee hoped that various organizations in the SAR would organize visits to the National Security Exhibition Hall by various sectors of the community, tertiary institutions, primary and secondary schools, and youth groups, so as to promote national security education for the whole nation and enhance the public's awareness of safeguarding national security on their own initiative.
