Hong Kong's pride, Paris Olympic fencing gold medalist Vivian Kong announced her retirement last Sunday. Some netizens who support "Hong Kong independence" celebrated online, claiming that it was their own "achievement" by leaving poisonous comments on Kong's social media.

In the past two weeks, Kong has been subjected to cyber violence by those netizens. Some used the essay she wrote in 2021 to "reveal" her true identity as a Hong Kong patriot and used it to attack and insult her personality.

However, is she wrong? How underhanded for them to use an athlete's retirement to take credit for their offensive behavior!
