Olympic champion Vivian Kong announces her retirement from full-time fencing career

Vivian Kong previously won gold in women's individual épée at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, making history for Hong Kong. In a post on social media platforms today (Aug. 4), Kong announced that she has decided to take a break after completing her third trip to the Olympics, and bid farewell to her career as a full-time fencing athlete.

Kong said she is very thankful that she has spent almost 20 years focusing on fencing and would like to express her heartfelt gratitude to her family and friends for their encouragement and support. After completing her third Olympic tour, she decided to take a break from her career as a full-time fencing athlete.

She also said that she is looking forward to a new career so that she can learn and grow, equip herself, and give back to Hong Kong. At the same time, she has accumulated experience, so that she can be ready to set up a charitable fund to help children to regain the fun of sports.

Kong once again thanked her fencing team for their unlimited support, saying that we will definitely meet again on the road of fencing, describing it as "once a fencer, always a fencer".
